A Note on the Different Versions of the Text
You may notice that there are two versions that are being read in class: a book and a packet. Based on your Reading MAP scores and my own observations, you were selected to read one of these two versions. The book is Steinbeck's original narrative. The packet is a modified version that changes some of the text so it is easier to comprehend. It is the same story and, for the most part, you will be completing the same activities and assessments. If you feel that you were placed incorrectly, please talk to Mr. Shircel.
The packet also includes a glossary of terms that may be difficult to understand. I have also included a glossary for each of the sections in the title page in the horizontal navigation tabs found at the top. There are also essential questions that we will use in discussions and activities.
The Chapters in each version do not line up so here is a guide of how they are configured:
Book Packet
Chapter 1 Chapters 1 & 2
Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 3 Chapters 4 & 5
Chapter 4 Chapters 6 & 7
Chapter 5 Chapters 8 & 9 (to pg. 51)
Chapter 6 Rest of Chapter 9 & Chapters 10, 11, & 12
I do not have exact copies online that match our page numbers. I do have ones with the same text, just different page numbers. They can be found in the downloads below.
