Introduction:
Emotions are a powerful thing. It can make us act impulsively or challenge us to new heights that we never knew we could reach. Kino and Juana, the two main characters in Steinbeck's The Pearl, find themselves in situations that spark different emotional responses. What we see throughout the novel is that Kino and Juana respond differently emotionally to what is happening around them.
As your first task, grab the worksheet for this activity and your packet. I want you to review the first two chapters of the packet. I would like you to fill in the chart with instances in the novel where Juana or Kino have an emotion/feeling and describe the situation that is happening that is causing the emotion. I have provided five spaces. If you can find more, add them to the back of the sheet. Then, answer the question below the chart.
Emotion and Music:
First, check out the clip below where Mr. Rogers discusses music and emotions with celebrated cellist Yo-Yo Ma. Note: This is linked to the full episode. To see the part with Yo-Yo Ma, click at the 14:15 point.
